MF30 Pwr Steering Cyl Repair ?'s

Hi Guys,

I'm helping out a friend with a busted MF30 Industrial, power steering piston is broken, see pic below.

I was able to locate a piston and seal kit and was able to get the new piston in easy enough. I gently moved the metal rings from the old piston to the new. Interior of cylinder looked o.k., not all scarred up or anything.

My question right now is more on the top 2 seals at the head of the PS cylinder. Identified as #3 & 4 in parts diagram.

I didn't replace the old ones for a couple of reasons. One they weren't leaking, but two I wasn't sure if I got the right seals. Figured I would ask here, it's simple enough to take apart again if need be. Haven't put it back into the tractor yet.

The top seal (wiper) #3 that I got looks real tricky to get into the pwr cyl head. I was nervous about picking out the old one because I wasn't sure the new one would fit in the PS Cyl head. I'm questioning will it deform or shape itself into the recess machined into the head? There's no way to take the head apart any further.

The 2nd seal looks to be a sandwich between two plastic rings with the seal in the middle. This doesn't look too bad. I assume I just pick out the old one and with some luck and magic get the new one into the machined recess in the head.

Never done one of these before so any advice would be appreciated. Pics below showing what I got. Thanks.

I'm working an older model 65 power steering cyl. right now. If it was me I'd mount it up with old seals and try. Most hyd.repair shops can install those if necessary. If the new are from land of almost right I'd rather have the old.AGCO "wants" 800 for a new rod for a 65 and the biggest difference is the length.
