MF 85 three point hitch

I finally got my three point hitch working on my new
MF 85 but it won't stay up. It has all the power in
the world but if you don't hold the lever back it
drops right back down again. Someone told me the
packing might be bad. I assume they mean in the
valve. not sure any ideas about what it could be?
Thanks so much for any help.

Are you talking about the far left auxillary valve lever, it should be locked back when using the three point, then use the position and draft levers as needed. There is a packing on the cylinder that can fail also.

I asked a guy with a MF 65 if that lever had to be locked back on his and he said no it sprung back on its own and then stayed where it was. I had to make my own handles and made them lock into position. I don't hear the tractor working extra hard so I figured I wasn't doing anything wrong. However i pull a couple of hitches of wood and my power steering goes. I thought that i was overworking the tranny fluid and causing the power steering to fail. Since after I let it cool off the power steering came back. I really appreciate any help, and yes it is the left lever.
