Thank you for the offer Aaron.... I have the service manual, the operator manual and the parts book on a cd... none of them show a spacer plate. Since it was there when I took it apart I just assumed it was proper. But we all know what assuming gets you. I'm going to try it without the spacer if the cover will fit flush. I have to get the control levers adjusted first and it's kicking my a$$. The manual says to make the adjustments with the position and draft levers in their respective quadrant marks. I thought this meant the draft lever between the dots and the position lever where it says "fast"... Hopefully someone can tell me where i'm confused. For anyone interested there is a post with a link to a video where i "try" to explain.

Thanks again, David

I have a copy of the manual on a server and I am not quite comfortable posting it publicly but if you would like access to it shoot me an email.

You should be able to adjust the lift cover while still on the tractor, but it is easier with it off and upside down. The spacer was never used, I suspect someone put it in after replacing the standpipe with the wrong one from a later tractor that had a thicker lift cover, as the standpipes have different lengths. I would try the pipe/cover you have without the plate, if the cover will not set flat the standpipe is the wrong one would be my guess. If it does set flat like it should then retry it.

I have taken that cover plate off from several Masseys and have never seen a spacer like that. I would say leave it out. Isn't the linkage adjustment done through the side cover where the dipstick is?
