MF202 Backhoe / Loader

Hello all, been around the board for a bit, usually reading the Ford 9N,2N,8N, as I have an 8N. However, I"ve come across a 1965( I believe) MF202 Backhoe/Loader close by, and it would be good to have on the farm. I contacted the gentleman and he tells me that it has a bottom end noise / knock. I"m going to look at it Saturday morning, then I"ll know more. My question is, will the oil pan come off this series without removing the front axle, as on an 8N? From all the reading I"ve done over the last couple of days, the 202 is based on the 35 ag tractor, but can"t find anything on pulling the oil pan.
As always, any and all help / info will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Roger

Hello Roger, you don't have to pull axle but here are 2 long bolts that on the front that will give you trouble i don't think it's coming off with the loader on. I'm in the middle of a tear down now on my 202 and i am taking the front end off.

Thanks for the info Trac...
So you have a 202, mind if I tell you what the man told me about the noise, maybe you can tell me where / what to look for. Well here goes anyway, hopefully you can give me some ideas.

I was told that he used it a few weeks ago to dig up a stump. He had no trouble and it was running as it should when he shut it down. Last weekend he cranked it up and he heard the "noise" that he said sounded like a bearing going. I don"t know if it was squealing as in a main, or knocking as in a conn rod bearing.

At any rate, I"ve read where, on the 35 series, the hydraulic pump floats on the shaft and is pinned in place and when one of those pins breaks, or wears down, it sounds like a bearing going because the pump is able to move around.

Have any input on that??

Thanks,
Toger

I wouldn't go tearing the oil pan off just yet. I have both a 202 and a TO35, I have had knocking from my 202 when the internal hydraulic pump broke apart.
Now yours(the one you are looking at) may not have an internal pump if it is not equipped with a 3 point hitch and lift. Many of the industrials did not have it, some did. With mine when I pushed the clutch down, the noise stopped. You also have a hydraulic pump which runs off the front of the engine to power the backhoe and loader, that could be causing a noise too. It is turning as long as the engine is turning, there is no way to disengage it. It does unbolt from the front fairly easily though.
It may be difficult to determine just what it is without taking some things apart.......it may be an easy fix, which is not necessarily something you want to discover when looking it over with the owner. He may decide to keep it or the price may go up. Having said that, the Z134 engines were very common and there are plenty of parts available. The 202 is a very useful tractor, I do lots of work with mine, I'm sure it has paid for itself in the 4-5 years I have had it........even though I've put some $$ into it since getting it.

Thanks for the reply Inno,
I wasn"t sure if the loader/backhoe used the internal pump or a separate pump. Don"t know yet if it has the pto and lift like the MF35, but I"ll find out in the am. Hopefully it"ll run long enough to get it on the trailer and get it home. I"ll keep ya"ll informed, and if I do get it, I"m sure I"ll be asking plenty of questions.

Thanks again,
Roger
