1963 massey 35 pto?

Finally got friends massey together and running. Then he asked me about the PTO, which I've never seen before. The PTO lever, if you pull up says engine PTO, push down it says ground PTO. He says he always pulls up on PTO. So I pulled up on lever and it works like I think it should. Push all the way down on clutch and PTO stops, let up part way and Pto engauges.

I'm guessing the ground PTO could be used for a Tiller, connecting the PTO to the back wheels like my Jubilee's PTO, am I right?
Thanks,
George

Yes, that's the way they're supposed to work. There were some models of Ferguson 3 point rakes that were made for ground drive. I've never tried to use a tiller on ground tho. I like to have it turning at proper speed when I lower it into the ground. Just my thoughts, Keith

We had a MF50 grounding up, I remember reading somewhere that the ground driven PTO made 1 revolution for every 20 inches of ground travel. HTH's Lee

Ground speed PTO is common on most MF tractors. You don't need to ask on multiple forums. 99.9% of the time you never use ground drive. You could break your PTO shaft using ground drive on a tiller. The PTO will only turn when the tractor is moving using ground drive. It will also reverse when you drive in reverse. The last sentence in your first paragraph explains how a live PTO works with the clutch on just about any tractor. The clutch half way down should only stop the tractor, not the PTO. All the way down stops both.
