1155 pto issue

I have an issue with my 1155. I cant pull the pto engagement lever at the back of the tractor back more than half way. also sound like there might be splines slipping in the back there. pto always spins slowly when the tractor is running and when I engage the pto lever in the cap the pto does speed up a bit but I think it just from internal drag. Is it fixable by just taking the back off the trans where the pto comes out or does top of trans need to come apart as well?

yes we did. after messing with it a while I did get it to engage but now it sounds like bearings gone back there. whines and is noisy.

Why are you messing with that lever!? We always leave ours engaged......who cares if they coast while running!? Doesn't hurt a thing!

i just bought the tractor and didn't even know what that lever was for until I needed the pto to work. for some reason when I needed it it would engage but now it works fine. although it sounds noisy

10/4 on that. That noise may go away after its used awhile. I'm suspecting that the rear shaft bearing had rusted alittle due to sitting and not being used. Your rear oil seal may be letting moisture in and hence it rusted the rollers on the bearing. I've found that best policy is to leave the pto engaged and let it coast when not being used. If you need to hook up the pto just shut tractor off. With the pto always coasting the bearing is always rolling in oil and won't lock up. Good luck. Luke
