Thank you 25Twin and Dieseltech for the insight.Just went back to the operators manual and it states that if you have trouble shifting the standared gears then shift the multipower into low before shifting gears.
Now one mare question please, when the multipower is in high I think I can hear the gears on the multipower pump and the lift pump meshing together. The ticking noise is most noticed when the engine is on idle and when it is shut off. Is this normal.
Thanks again as I was dreading splitting the tractor again without being able to use it.

Hi Frank, Don"t forget (if you are a newbie to multipower) That you have to "Shift to high for engine braking" I know of at least one occasion where a guy has been rotavating in say, 1st low high multipower and he has shifted the multipower into low when he reaches a bit of heavier soil and the tractor has "taken off" because the rotovator has pushed the tractor forward like a paddle steamer.

Roy, I'm a newbie too. Been working on a friends MF35 with multipower. His multipower seems to be stuck, but the tranny works fine in low and hi next to gear shifter. Not sure what range the multipower is stuck in. So if I understand you, if his tractor is stuck in hi, then his brush hog will push the tractor if he tries to stop like the old fords did. Hope his is stuck in low then.
George.

I've never seen a MP clutch stick in high, unless the shift valve bellcrank bolt has broken with the spool valve stuck in high. When most fail high is lost, and tractor stays in low, which is a jaw type overrunning clutch. That's why in low the tractor can freewheel downhill, and high is used for engine braking. The PTO mower will not push the tractor as the PTO drive is seperate from the transmission. What can push the tractor is a tiller when in low MP.

Something won't allow us to move lever when we had the tractor split apart working on clutch. Guess we will find out if it can free wheel if it's in high or low.
