Thanks to all for making me feel better about the operating characteriscs of my MF 165. Now I am into trying to fix the front engine clattering noise on my Ferguson F-40. Two years ago I replaced the governor and it did fine for a year then last summer during hay season it started making this horrific clattering when the RPM'swere increased but was quiet at idle. This is why I assume the governor is again the problem. The question is this; What should the torque value be on the front crankshaft pulley bolt? Ihave a service manual for a MF 50 but I can't find any mention as to how tight this should be without stripping the threads Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hi Frank,
I would ask this question on The Ferguson Forum too. By coincidence I just had a quick look in there and there is a photo of a guy with his beautifully restored F.40 pulling a Ferguson Hay rake.

my to-35 was making the about the same noise as yours,
I was afraid it was a rod bearing, an old farmer friend found that large bolt loose, I had just missed it going over the tractor many times.

he held a chain wrench around the pulley while I got on the bolt with a 15' breaker bar, we tighten up the bolt.
I also wire brushed the threads of the bolt and placed a light coat of thread locker on the threads.

that was last year and the bolt has not come loose,

how many foot lbs to tighten it, ??????
but, you do not want it coming loose.
