MF50 -Still a Great Tractor

Ran my 1962 year make MF50 diesel for about 2-1/2 hrs today and about 5 hrs last week bush hogging some fields. Tractor still runs like a sewing machine, easy to start, easy on fuel and comfortable to ride. Not bad for a 52 year old machine. I've had it for about 10 years now. Makes me think they should of never quit making them!

I absolutely agree, Bill. I run The Massey Super 90 tractors here. Same vintage tractors.
Nice easy tractors to run and very easy on diesel, And even though they had their faults...At least you can fix them yourself.
I have a 2003 CaseIH MXM130 that seems to get homesick almost every year and needs to go back to the dealer. I only have about 1800 hours on it and it has already needed a new rad, The rad fan clutch has had problems and needed a new wiring harness. They put on a couple of Potentiometers for the shuttle shift, that seems to wear out about every 150 hours. Have to keep one on hand at all times.(Only $80.00 each)
Also the computer has small problems and needs to be shut down occasionally to re-boot, or it will not shift up.
I would like to upgrade our older CaseIH 9260 4X4 tractor to a new model...But I just don't trust the new computerized garbage they make these days.
I am afraid these newer tractors will all be in the scrap heap long before out old masseys are still running, providing we can find parts to keep them going.
I would like to see some manufacturer come out with a tractor that has manual shift and the four gauges that our Masseys have, and no computerization at all.
I see that New Holland has re-introduced the old 8N tractor, and called it the 8N Boomer?
Has anyone had any experience with this new tractor compared to the old 8Ns?

One friend has one back up north he said needs a rebuild and saw another on CL that had a busted case for parts.

I have a little TO35, 1957 model, was out with it this morning pulling up some small trees for mama bear. Runs great, still idles at 400 rpm.

But, my buddy just bought a new MF, about 40 hp diesel with a front end loader, nice, much stronger front axle than the TO.

Also, mine is gas and I believe if you ran it hard all day you would find out why they badged it 35.

It could burn 35 gals of gas pulling 3-12" plows.

They are good tractors,

Just wonder if these new high powered big boys will be running 50-55 years from now? Bet not!!!

I totally agree. I've got 4 Massey 65s, a Super 90, a 180, and a 175. I put up 15000+ bales of hay every year with them. Good on fuel and I can work on them myself!
