Hi MF folk,

I'm looking to buy a MF-30 that has a MF-54 backhoe on it.
Can I remove the MF-54, buy some parts and now be a 3 point with a PTO? without a PTO? I would rarely use the backhoe and most of the time want to be in 3pt mode.

See pics. Wait I can't post pics just yet. My account is too new.
email me [email protected] and I can send pics

Thanks

Howard

I have a MF 20 with a mf52 back hoe attachment
From what I have found out over the last few yrs
is that MF industrials are configured differently
as to how they were first purchased.
Mine has no pto or 3 pt hook ups or draw bar even.
Others that i have looked at either have it all or
some if sold factory without the backhoe.
If you want to you can add a 3 pt if its not there
but not sure if its cost effective to add in the
pto if its not there.
Check closely before you buy if you need the 3pt
and pto.
The backhoe is easily removed in about 10 mins.
Just put down the stabs and use them to relive
pressure on the lower locking pins, extend the
boom and bucket and set on the ground to relive
pressure on the upper locking pins, remove pins(
you may have to use the stabs and boom to release
the pins again). Shut off tractor disconnect the
hyd hoses and connect them together restart and
drive off.
Also I put blocks under the main body as the stabs
leak down and it makes it easier the reattach.
I also added quick connects to the hyd hoses as I
rmove and replace my backhoe many times over a yrs
time.
The industrials are based off a standard MF
tractors as my MF 20 exactly the same as my 135
except for the shutle shift for forward and
reverse.
Not sure what the mf 30 is based off of (I think a
235?).
My MF's are my tractor of choice here.
Very dependable and user friendly.
good luck with your new purchase.

MF30 is based on a 165. If it has no 3 point and no
PTO, I don't think it would be cost effective adding
these things to it. You'd need a donor tractor for
starters. I'm not sure on the MF30 but it's
predecessor, the 3165, could have a removable
backhoe and 3 pt. hitch. If it has instant reverse
transmission, the PTO changes direction when you go
in reverse which could damage the implement and/or
the tractor. If you want mainly a 3pt. hitch
tractor, look for something else.

Yes. sounds like I may be square pegging a round hole (I should quit while I'm ahead). It's just such a good buy. I'm not a tractor person. I was assuming the backhoe was a removable unit and thus the hyd's were self contained and driven by some sort of a PTO-like setup. I really don't need a rear PTO mainly just a 3 pt. Are there any tractor junkers with the parts available? I wouldn't expect they'd charge too much for the necessary parts. Yes, I'm still trying to square peg this. Also, will I need to compensate for the removed backhoe by adding weights at the rear?

That's a good looking tractor. It would be A LOT of
work to add a 3 pt. if it doesn't have any of the
components. The MF30 is a darn good loader tractor
though. You need the internal pump, the quadrant
controls, maybe a different trans. housing, all the
3 pt. linkage, etc, etc.
