Help needed with 135 Power Steering

The service manual I have shows power assist rams on the front axle......my tractor doesn't have these nor any provisions for them. At this point I would just love to be able to get the power steering fixed. I bush hogged 12 acres yesterday and my hands ache.

Could someone steer in the direction of a proper service manual, or share some experience?

Thanks in advance.

Oh.......I'm pretty handy with a wrench.

With no steering rams how do you know it has ps. does it have the pump? Most tractors without ps will steer fine with a heavy attachment on the rear and if your tractor has ps and doesn't work no wonder your hands hurt.

It has power steering........it just doesn't work. Yes.....tough to use.

The service manual I have covers a different type......one that uses cylinders on the front axle. Mine is contained in the steering box.

I just wondered if someone here might have experience with that system.......

Thats the type I have on the 65 and on my 35 all but the pump is contained with the sector. You can type power steering in the search column and possibly find your problem.

mine has the power steering in the column. pump is below and behind the alternater. Make sure it has fluid. if it does, you may have seals out in the part that is in the column.

Which 135 do you own? None of the US built
machines had cylinders on the power
steering system. These models were power
assisted steering.

Get a copy of the real shop manual from
AGCO and the first section is all about
the steering system. Is your tractor gas
or diesel?

Make sure you have enough oil in the
reservoir. And check for leaks around the
steering column and pump. Could be sucking
in air. Change your filter as well and
refill the reservoir starting with a quart
of Permtran 821XL and turning the wheel
left and right till the air is purged and
the oil is to the fill line.

Yes, that is the correct manual for it. The first section of that set goes through the steering system. Do you have a parts book as well? You can use agcopartbooks.com or order that as well. That"s helpful in how the components reassemble.

Since you have a Perkins diesel, those pumps are readily available aftermarket in case yours has bit the dust. The hydraulic lines themselves could be available aftermarket but I bought mine from AGCO (and paid for it) however, due to how the lines snake around the tractor, make sure any replacement hose is basically like factory.

Some shops can"t do the steel lines.

PS the pump has a nut on top, and I think the drain plug at the bottom, I would check and see if there is any fluid in the pump.

Thanks so much for your help. I'm not "in to" tractors really, just a tool to me. Chainsaws are my thing. I modify saws to increase cut speed......now if you need help with a saw.....I'm the guy.

I just ordered the service manual. It will be here June 10th.

I'll take lots of pics as I disassemble the unit for repair. If there is any interest I could post a thread here on it.

Oh.....the guy I got it from had it for 10 years. He said it blew an o-ring in the steering box......he never did take very good care of it, so I didn't pay much attention to what he said.
