Davis loader

Has anyone seen this type of filter setup on a Davis loaded before? its a 101/102. The tractor wasn't running when I bought it, and on the first start up and run, the control blew a seal out of the top of the spool(notice all the oil coating everything). It didn't come with a filter, and I bought it guessing it was the correct one. I'm wondering if it is back pressuring the return line. I can not find this type of filter in any of the manuals I've seen.

Thanks
Dave

ok cant seem to get the picture to upload. Its a round spin on type filter that is attached to the loader right behind the control, and off to one side. Casting numbers are 107375.

thanks

A spin on? Near the controls? My bet is someone invented that. Most older loaders have a paper or screen canister in a can- or a 'sock', a felt filter in a canister with a bolt on lid. Always at the intake end of the front pump.
Yeah, uploading pictures can be as hard as working on tractors... someone spelled it all out on here a few days ago, my trick is to keep hitting 'continue'- keep trying

Often if your pictures are too large they will not upload.

With regard to the filter, I think I might have a number written down somewhere. Other guys have said that the filter should absolutely not be at the pump intake but rather at the return to the tank. I would tend to believe this as I occasionally have issues with mine. I did replace the filter at some point but I suspect it is not giving me sufficient flow. My worry is that my tank (loader arm) is so full of crud that I'd be sucking it through the pump and causing issues. Might someday look into building/buying a new tank with proper filtering built in.
