MF 165 Perkins AD4.203 In-Frame Overhaul

Hello! We are rebuild a AD4.203 Perkins, so I thought I'd create this thread to post information/questions as the job progresses.

Piston/Ring Damage (wow what causes this?!)

Strange Raised Line on Liner (???)

Corresponding "etched" line in Block (???)

Strange Line in Block (can't feel with fingernail ????)

Corresponding Crack in Liner (cracked all way through ????)

I would chance saying the line on the block has been caused by
compression gasses passing through the crack in the liner. And I
would guess starting fluid broke the rings, piston and cracked the
liner?????...........Sam

First thing you need to do is quit using starting fluid in this Perkins. Second thing you need to do is change your plans and forget fooling with an in-frame job. Split it and have the block checked by professional shop. May be ruined, cracked, etc. Tom

Hi guys thanks for the responses. This tractor belongs to a customer, and yes, I believe he probably used too much starting fluid. We repaired the injectors & injection pump, because he had disassembled them and put them back together incorrectly - this lead to problems starting the tractor (our original service call was to fix a starting problem) - he probably tried using too much fluid.
