MF 165 Cam Lobe for Lift Pump Worn = Replace Cam?

Hello there!

We are in the middle of a rebuild on a MF165 with SN: "SDW643007085," and a stamped # "29D1692" on the LH side of the motor just behind/below the rear-most exhaust manifold hole. There is also a "C" stamped below the "29D1692." I was told this is a 4.203 Diesel with Direct Injection. Does that sound correct?

We are rebuilding the motor, and noticed the below pictured damage to the camshaft. Is this normal for a tractor of this age? Does the camshaft need to be replaced? If so, are they available for purchase? Thanks!'

Did you replace the lift pump in the past? My 65 did this also. The lever on the newer pumps are to thick and there is not room between the block and the high spot on the cam lobe. Mine not only wore the cam lobe but also bent the lever forward

Hi there. We didn't replace the lift pump, but by all appearances, the owner of the tractor did. It looks new-ish.

What did you do about the cam? Replace it? What did you do about the pump?

I did not replace the cam...yet, but I did buy a new lift pump and ground the block side of lever to get enough clearance when on the high spot of the cam lobe. I caught mine early enough and it works fine, yours appears to have worn down more on the lobe. Probably time for a new cam.

Bought both pumps from AGCO dealer. Must be a new supplier and making them a little different. I would suggest anyone buying a new lift pump for an AD4 203 check for clearance.

Wow that's scary that a new "oem" part can be incorrect & could lead to damage like this. This is somewhat of a concern when buying aftermarket parts, but usually not a concern when going direct to manufacturer.
