MF 50 1958 model transmission filter?

I have a gas MF 50 I recently acquired. I have it tore down to do TLC to it, took the PTO cover off and I cannot find a filter for the hydraulics?

I know this is an earlier model than I have ever been around. Did they make some with no screen filter in them?

if the tractor is stamped MHF on the cast parts and has the 2 1/2 inch lift cylinder it didn't have a filter. that pump has smaller diameter pistons in it too and you can't get a rebuild kit for it.

I have a TO35, 1957 model.

I understand you are to use GL-1 90 weight mineral oil in the trans, hydraulic, and lift sump, around 8 gallons.

You get the oil hot, plowing, disking, etc: then immediately drain the oil while it's hot, the oil will hopefully wash out the dirt in the bottom of the sump along with the old oil.

This oil is designed to let the dirt settle out to the bottom of the sump.

The new type hydraulic/transmission oil used in the newer tractors is designed to keep the dirt suspended in the oil, so it will be taken out as the oil passes through the oil filter.

If the bottom of the sump has a built up of sludge, you will have to use something to loosen the sludge, then wash it out. Being mindful not to get the sludge in the hydraulic pump.

How do you do that ???????

If the sump oil is changed at a proper interval over the years the sludge will not build up.
