135 wiring question

Still trying to figure out bits and pieces of my "new" 135. I pulled the rear work light apart to determine why only one of the rear lights worked. It was the left amber one that worked. Surprise! One of the lugs was broken off of the sealed beam bulb. Then another surprise. There is a smaller bulb (think "tail light" size) BEHIND the sealed beam. I don't get it. What is the purpose of putting a bulb behind a bulb? It comes on alternatively to the sealed beam, controlled by the switch on the back of the light housing. What is the point? The housing is solid so no light can get out when only that secondary bulb is burning. It also seems clear that the left amber light is supposed to blink, although my blinker relay is not working. But what about the right amber light? It stays on continuously whenever the main dashpanel switch is on. Is it supposed to blink? seems to me that both amber lights should blink but this tractor is certainly not wired that way.

Hey Loren NC. I am looking at my book in the wiring diagram and it says it a combination work and warning lamp thats has a brown 16 guage wire feeding it. then it also has a accessory lamp that does have a flasher and it looks to be turned on by a accessory switch on the lamp housing itself. so looking at the wiring diagram thats the only lamp that flashes.

Loren,

Basically what happens is this: flip the switch one way and you have a work light. Flip it the other way and the little red bulb shines through the hole in the work light and shines red. Your amber lights should then start flashing.

A few points to note...NAPA quit selling those work light bulbs. I got mine from AGCO. The flasher unit and little red light were all still available from AGCO along with the rubber housing.

Be careful with the wiring as it is almost all totally obsolete. (I should know as it took months to get the correct parts to refurbish my work light.)

Also in case you need to fabricate part of the wiring harness, JEGS sells the bullet connectors that were used on the Masseys of that era. I can try and provide measurements if you need them.

From what you said, it appears that mine has had the work light canister replaced. It has no opening for a red light of any sort. That is why I raised the question of why you would have a bulb in an enclosed space. I did buy a replacement blinker relay. They are available at auto stores. I also bought a replacement sealed beam bulb before I figured out my old one was not burned out. I got that replacement from Tractor Supply. I guess at this point I just have to figure out what I want to do about that extra bulb. Seems likely I will add a red taillight below the work light and reroute the wiring to it. Now that I know both amber lights should blink, I will have to do some wiring adjustments there also.

The way my wiring looks there does not appear to have been a plan for the second amber light to flash, but I think I would prefer that it flash. As you will note from my post above, I did get one light flashing now, so I will need to do some wiring adjustments if I want the other one to also flash.
