glow plug problem

I’ve got a Massey 35 4 cylinder fitted with a glow plug in each cylinder. Trouble is it keeps ruining the glow plugs. The filament at the bottom of the plug is NOT burnt out in fact it looks like new. But for some reason the plugs refuse to heat up, however they are tested. I’m using Sparex S.61336. at £15 each it’s getting expensive. My guess is that too much current is getting to the plugs. There is no resistor BEFORE the plugs, although there is a spiral wire going from the last plug to chassis, which is presumably there to drop the current. Am I missing a resistor somewhere else in the circuit? Also I’m using a heavy duty battery. All advice gratefully received.
