Massey 3 pt hitch arm length question

Hi Massey experts,
I'm working on a MF 31 which was spec'd for the Air Force and was not equipped with 3 pt hitch arms or links to the rock shaft. It seems like the tractor calls for 39" arms, but this makes the distance from end of hitch arm to the pto unusually long. I worked on a 175 years ago and saw the same problem then and needed to shorten the arms down to about 35 inches to get it to run a 3 pt hitch rake correctly. I'm inclined to order 35" arms rather than the ones in the book unless I'm missing something here. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Glenn

Of course the further out the lift balls are the less lifting power you have. However you might think of getting longer arms, with adjustable slide-in-and-out ends, and trying them out. To get the adjustable slide-in-and-out end I bought a longer arm, then installed it and measured carefully, and cut out 5" and had my good welder re-weld it back together. Works perfect.
