Rings Installation Question

I am re-ringing my MH44 (H260) and need some help. I pulled the pistons, removed all the rings, cleaned the grooves, etc. One problem, I made a boneheaded blunder and didn"t keep one piston assembled with the original rings so I could install the new rings correctly. The new rings have a beveled edge on one side. Is the beveled edge installed up or down? Thanks for your assistance. Sapper

As a rule, piston rings should be fitted to the rings.....remembering this, "In up, down out"
Meaning if the chamfer is on the inside profile of the ring, it should be fitted facing upwards, and if on the outside of the ring, facing downwards.
Hope this helps, Evan.

You can go to Hastings piston rings website and they have a chart you can look at that has all the identifying marks and which way they go on the piston.

just reminding, hone the cyl's to remove glaze.
check ring end gap..003-.004 for every inch of bore. you need .016 gap. do this at the very top of cyl. as no ring wear is there. you can also check the ring in the top sleeve wear area and see how much sleeve wear you have. the sleeves wear on a taper , so the bottoms will have no wear either. these old engines are forgiving and will be ok with some wear. rule of thumb is if you catch your finger nail its sleeve replacement time. also if using same sleeves the top ridge should be removed with a ridge reamer. its possible the top rings will hit and could break one. make sure the pistons and rings are well lubed when installing.
