Hey dieseltech this question is probably one you can answer.Seller on CL has a diesel 65 that was rebuilt and smokes alot so is giving up on it and said he was told the rings were probably installed upside down and that is the reason for all the smoke. Sounds resonable but what do you think?

If I may butt in? Sometimes these Perkins diesels are mollycoddled after a rebuild....then they glaze the bores and burn oil like nobodies business. Once you get a Perkins rebuilt, give it a bit of hard work......That is what they like best!!!!!!

Sam40 I'm just wanting to know it's not just a sales pitch, just paid 700 for a running non smoker and need the front grill and as always suddenly 2 more "betterbuys" show up.Been lucky so far unless you have my wifes eyes seeing money pits.

I would try that with a 23C Sam, but this time of year the forest fire rangers keep an eagle eye on me.. ever since last time that 35 ran....
i'll tell ya 2, if this smoker is less that the last one, has all the pieces you're missing, and the arsend is good, buy it anyway.

Try TIPS inc in Gimlet Rd, Lawrenceburg, Tennesee for a front grille....They have brand new grilles, which are easy to hide from the wife for a while!.......Sam

Rings could be a possibility, also injection pump timing will affect smoke too. Would have answered sooner, but have been under the weather with needing a kidney stone removed at the hospital. Sure feel much better now!
