Manifold heat shield bolts

I"m trying to remove the heat shield bolts from a 1961 MF 35 gas. They are so close to the manifold that I can"t get a wrench or socket on them. The right side is worse than the left. I think a real thin walled socket will work but I may need to grind mine down. I would appreciate any advice on to remove this as I am getting nowhere. Thanks.
 
I think Tony posted a pic of a special tool for removing the manifold bolts but a ground down 9/16 will work.
 
Use different wrenches. Each will turn just a little. This takes time but works. I even grind sides down to help. Use one that you don't use a lot. I have my favorite ones. LOL

Yes.....that seems to be what I have found out. Thanks for the info and that sure is a clean engine in one of the other posts.
 
I had to install a new manifold on my TO35, 1957 model the year.

Before I had every thing buttoned up I had a few odd shaped and ground down wrenches and sockets.

But I got it done, I bought all new nuts for the manifold bolts.

On my exhaust pipe connection bolts I used brass nuts,
