1080/318 Head bolts or studs.

Perkins 318? I would expect studs since every other Perkins that I have worked on had studs. Whatever else you do, be sure to do it according to instructions. The 318's were know for head gasket problems.

and if it were me,I wouldn't buy the junk they carry at any of the local auto stores. I would call up ARP and get hi quality studs with rolled threads and the correct alloy steel.

318 and the A4300 have always been 1/2 fine thread studs on the tractors I have seen. The S90 puller I play with still has the original studs, but the nuts have been changed to Hi nuts like Lawson has for more threads holding tension. The block end has close to 3/4 inch thread while the original nuts are less than 1/2 inch thick.

Check with your MF dealer. The 318 as mentioned,
had head gasket problems. There were service bulletins on this and we upgraded all the studs
and also the gaskets. After that no problems. I
don't have enough info left to help you but for
sure you need that upgrade. Chuck
