175 Transmission noise

I about got the 175 back together today. The noise in the tranny was a broken tooth on the PTO gear. It wasn't too bad of a job except for having to go to work and drag it out for afew weeks. Makes it hard to remember where all those parts go. I also didn't have the high-low shift fork right so I had to do it twice. I'm just waiting on new fuel filters before I fire her up, no sense in bleeding it twice. Thanks guys for the help! I hope I've gotten everything right!

You guys got the 175 for a longer time than than we did. We never had any 175s with the cab mounting points on the side of the gearbox. From 1967 the 175 was fitted with the 248 engine and rebadged as a 178. In 1972 we got the 168 which had the 236 engine and an 8 speed or multi-power box, but with a 6 inch spacer behind the gearbox.......Glad you got your tractor fixed....They are one good tractor!........

Hi Sam,
Maybe we tend to think that UK built tractors with the cab leg mounting points in the gearbox casing for example led the way. But it seems that in a lot of cases we are playing catch-up. When you do see this type of gearbox casing on a tractor which should NOT have it it does beg the question as to whether the gearbox has been changed at some time.

I'm just noticing the cab mounts on the side of the transmission housing. My 180 doesn't have them. The serial #is 9AT06687 on the 175. Anybody know what year that would be? This should be a stout little tractor, I really like the 180 I've got. Same tractor but with a platform set up.

I agree, David, to a certain extent, but the 175 was produced in the
US untill the end of 100 series production. I have seen them with the cab mounting points on the gearbox. Brendon, has your tractor 2 bolts or 3 bolts on top of the gearbox? Sometimes we see tractors with 2 bolts in the tranny and 3 in the gearbox or vice-versa....definitely indicating a swap! There is such a trade on these tractors for export over here that good parts are often swapped off export tractors only to be replaced with dud parts! not very decent but it happens!

Hey Sam, this 175 has two bolts in the gear box and the rear end. It all appears to be original to me. Someone has had it apart before, but this tractor shows 8600hrs on it so I'm not surprised. The new gear and the one I replaced both say Devon on them not an M1 number. Devonshire maybe?
