waterlines to oil filter???????

bought a 3165 with a perkins and it has two heater hoses going to an adapter sandwiched between the oil filter and the bracket. What is this for?????

Are you sure that's not the fuel filter? Sometimes they do heat fuel filters, in cold climes, to prevent gelling.

I like my MF a great deal, and I have owned many British machines, so I can say this; But every so often the owner of a British machine will stop and scratch his head, and say "But but, why would they design it like THAT???"

Ford does that to this day with their pick up trucks. It also could be found on their police cars.
The idea is that coolant heats up to normal operating temperature faster than oil does, but the oil eventually reaches a higher temp normally. So the heat exchanger helps the oil heat up quicker by way of hot coolant and then as the oil gets hotter it would normally surpass the coolant temp but with the exchanger on there it doesn't get as hot and lasts longer. It keeps the oil at a closer to ideal operating temp.
Simple and elegant solution.
