Old Massey/Case Dealership

For some of the "old timers" on here from Michigan. Any remember S&W Equipment / Case and Massey Ferguson Sales, in Corunna, around the Flint area? I am trying to get a little history on a 1975 1085 Massey I have. I believe it was sold new from them to MSU Ag dept. Looking for any info/owners/employees etc. Thanks in advance. RB

S & W Equipment started out in the 40's as a Case dealership (C. P. Dynes Company) owned by my mother's cousin, Charles P. Dynes. William Schmiege started out as a partner in the business, buying out Charles Dynes in 1967 and forming S & W Equipment. Mr. Schmiege sold the business to John (Roy) and Sherry Freund in 1977. I can't remember when the dealership closed. Roy Freund passed away in 2010. My brother-in-law is married to Roy & Sherry's daughter. I can see if Sherry may have some records, but I think that they are probably gone.

Well that's a lot more info than I expected, but very much appreciated. I know it's a long shot but yea, go ahead and see if there might be something left around that shows sales for '74,'75,'76 era or possibly the last owners when it closed down. I'm really interested in if it was sold originally to MSU or not. I've tried ,to no avail, to e-mail MSU salvage department who would have been in charge of selling off old or surplus equipment to see if it would be in their files . It's never been painted and still has the "S&W" dealer stickers on it. Just in case this post gets old and too far back before you find out I will give you my phone # to paste on your calendar. 989-772-0111 . Thanks again. RB

I don't know if he worked for MSU at the time period that your tractor would have been in use, but the crop manager at the time that I was at MSU in the mid-late 80's was Bary Darling, who grew up just a mile from where I grew up. The last I knew, Bary was retired and lived in the Lansing area.

Just got hold of Barry and he remembered buying two (this one and another) from a bussiness going under down there. They were about 5 yrs old at time (1980). They had them for around 10 yrs and then went the "lease" route and traded both in to a JD dealer in Mason and went JD lease after that. So the guy I bought it from got it from the JD dealer in Mason. The original owner that got it from S&W is still unknown but went out of bussiness 5 yrs later and purshasing from MSU made a deal with them on both tractors. I wouldn't mind finding the original sale info but don't spend a lot of effort. I've got a lot more info than before. I can't believe Barry remembered all the details on that tractor. He knew just the one I was talking about. Internet is great! Thanks again, and you've got my number if you get any more info. RB
