135 Hydraulics

I'm still trying to figure out what could be wrong with the three point linkage (It won't raise/lower).I took the standpipe cover off oil comes up the standpipe but the flow is bubbling up. Yet it's not a very strong flow.

So if this means that the pump is working, why does the linkage not respond when I use the quadrant lever?

Thanks,

Christos

I am not a Massey expert by any stretch of the imagination, having just gotten my first one a few months ago, but I am having the same problem with my 135. The difference might be that I know why. I took my quadrant lever apart to clean off the rust and paint. Something fell apart inside and the linkage has not worked since. You could have something loose inside. Mine is going to the dealer this week. They tell me they will have to pull the top cover off to reconnect everything properly.

Hello Christos,
Have you removed the quadrant and its support bracket? If so you may have the rollers in the wrong place and this is preventing the system working.

Whatever the answer I would suggest proceeding as follows;
Leave the cap off the stand-pipe for the moment. Drain the trans oil level to that of the bottom bolt. Remove the RH round side cover. Inside you will see the pump lever coming up from the oil in the transmission. You will see the vertical lever coming down from above with the knurled screw which makes contact with the roller in the pump lever.
When working normally the pump lever roller will push rearwards against the vertical lever screw. When you move the quadrant lever to the DOWN position the v lever will push the roller forward into the discharge position. When you move the quadrant lever to RAISE the roller will move fully rearwards. If you lift the 3-point manually you will see the pump lever move into the central 'neutral' position as the linkage reaches the selected height.
With your tractor there is no need to start the engine. Move the quadrant lever as above and observe the operation of the pump lever. In order for the system to work the pump lever must respond to the command from the quadrant lever.. If you have no movement at the pump lever it can be due to a fault, damage or disengagement, in the linkage or at least partial seizure of the pump control valve. The movement is then being absorbed by the compression spring in the linkage.
If it is damage or disengagement, look for the 'dog' lever (looks like a dog!). This may not be in place or doing its job.
Let us know what you find. Refer to figure 7.

David,

I have movement from the quadrant to pump lever. If I put the draft control lever all the way down it does push the lever with the roller pin forward.

I also haven"t tinkered with the quadrant (in so far as disassemble stuff goes).

I have had this annoying recurrence of problems with the hydraulics. If I drain and flush with diesel and refill then I"m fine or play around with the pump lever. The relief valve doesn"t blow and if I use the quadrant lever, the linkage stops working after about four or five times. If I use the diverter box levers it"ll work, yet the lift raising is sluggish and slow.

Regrettably my shop manual doesn"t give much in the terms of diagnostics. Have had a hard time to determine where the problem is and either take it to the mechanic or repairing it myself.

Thanks

Christos

Hello Christos,
From what you say I think you will find that the roller frame, number 16 on the Position Control illustration will be bent slightly. If this is the case the roller might be running on the outside or over the edge occasionally. There is nothing short of removing the cover and observing the operation.
