any comments on how good of a machine they were. how high do they lift. would work for loading chicken litter into a spreader. have a 1000 tons to load.

We sold just a few in mid 60's. Very fast capable
machine. weighs 10,700 lbs (gas)or 10,900(diesel)
Lift capacity-5000 to full height or 7000 w/addl
weights. Max clearance at max ht. 132 1/2 ".
Clearance with bucket dumped-107". Reach (out from unit) 50 1/4 with loader bucket on ground.
24" at full ht. I always say on an older machine,
it's how the machine has been maintained. Chuck

so, if you found a decent one, it would probably work for loading chicken litter and lime, looking for something simplier then a wheel loader with articulated joint and pins. 2 yard buket or what size was usually fitted.

Howdy Bloke,
I have got a Massey 356 Shovel Loader, and I think it is a real gem. The Perkins diesel motor starts well, given enough battery power to spin it over. It will lift close to two ton, enough to lift the steer off the ground, and the previous guy gave you reach/height measurements.

My only problem is that I put more oil in the hydraulic steering than diesel in the tank. Without this constant topping up, straight forward/backward is the only option, no matter how much grinding on the steering wheel.

My brakes are in need of some repair, so loading on a slope can be tricky. I don't use it a lot, so havn't bother to try to fix these minor issues. Gunna wunday!

I have a gas model (continental G193 or something like that); bit of an odd duck engine, but boy can it lift. Before I got it someone put a 3 stage mast on instead of a bucket (1000 lbs?) and a weight box on the back. I have a fair amount of weight back there beyond stock (500 lbs?) and to my best calculations it lifted a cast concrete set of stairs (3500-4000 lbs or so) plus the mast wight.

I steered when the tail wheels touched the ground. Make sure the shuttle shift works; engine needs to be able to idle well for it to shift smoothly.

I should also mention the drive wheels and differential setup are basically the tail of a MF 65, as in I don't EVER want to work on the brakes. I also have a thirsty hydraulic system, she marks her territory for sure. Also seems a bit thirsty on gas, but no more hours than I've really used it, I don't know and it doesn't really matter.
