MF 150 Transmission

I have a MF 150 that runs well. Everything works as it should. I went to add some transmission fluid yesterday, and when I removed the filler plug, I saw what looked like a coil of thin metal or even a very loose, floppy spring around where the gear shift comes through the housing. It doesn"t appear to be attached to anything, and certainly doesn"t look like it belongs there. Again, the tractor functions fine, but I am concerned that if this comes loose then it might get caught in gears and cause me problems. Does it belong there? Should I attempt to remove it?

There is s'posed to be a horse-shoe shaped clip to hold the spring on........Now if it is gone ....well YOU NEED A LONG MAGNET and Happy Fishing!!!!!
