I just picked up a 1949 44 row crop. Needs lots of work. It has the 260 gas engine. There was no oil filter in the canister, so does anyone know the part number of correct canister? NAPA had no listing. The center pipe is about 1/2" dia, and inside of canister is a little over 4" in dia, and inside of oil filter housing is about 5" deep. Should there be a spring inside canister housing w/gasket that the filter would sit on? That is how my Ford 860 is designed.

If that canister is factory it would take a NAPA 1090, which has been discontinued about three years ago, but a 1092 will work, same height, a little smaller diameter and the hole in the center is a little larger but will seal on the washers if placed in the center. the cover should have the spring and hold down washer.

I went to two different NAPA stores today, and they both said NAPA #1090 was obsoleted by #7290 cartridge. They ordered one from Seattle for me to pick up tomorrow. I will report back on how it works. If this don't work I will convert to spin on conversion kit.

I went spin on as well. Its the difference between 8 dollars and 35 dollars for filters and its an easy conversion. I believe i posted part numbers at that point on here.
