hey guys trying to do some figuring out. posting this question here do to f40 having same as mf 35 and mf50 rear end. i restored the f40 put in new inner and outer seal, new bearing and cup as well as new collar. a few months later i am getting fluid coming out outer seal. i repacked bearing w/ grease as it went back together. my question is did my inner seal fail and allow trani fluid to get past bearing and outer seal? obviously easy to replace inner seal but project to replace collar and remove bearing to get to outer. any thoughts would be appreciated.

The outer seal has very little to do with keeping the oil in, it is more a dust seal and to keep the grease clean and from falling out!. I would assume it is an inner seal fail. Check your end float.......Sam

when adjusting backlash,do you think its an issue that I leave one tire on,book says to take both off. that's a bit of a pain if needed. I'm able to check it w/ one off but didn't know if it was an issue. so far I've taken one shim out and still going opposite, thinking of taking 2nd and final one out then check again. might of had to much backlash causing wear on seal.
thanks

Take all your shims out and tighten until axle locks, undo and add one shim at a time until you just get the axle to turn freely. You don't need to tighten any more than 3 nuts every time, but select 3 and leave the in between three out.. I know it is a pain to do but it is easier than redoing the seal and replacing oil soaked brake linings!...........Sam
