Ignition for 135

I need some help with issues on my 135 massey ferguson. According to the serial number it is a 1970 model. I can't find the serial no. for the engine. The space my owners manual shows it to be is blank on my tractor. I have scraped it and nothing is showing. On to the issues. Someone that had it before me put a 6 cylinder cap on it and plugged 3 of the holes with silicon. It ran okay for about 3 years but has now gotten hard to start. Since I would like to clean up the mess with the distributor anyway I thought I would begin with that and move on to the carburetor later if this doesn't help. Problem is I don't know which cap to buy. It is of the screw on variety but have no idea what brand. I also want to get new plugs but don't know which ones to buy, the long or short. I went to take one out the other day and couldn't get my socket in to take one out---plus it was about 15 degrees so I so I didn't try to hard. I would also like to put in new rotor, points and condenser although I am not sure I could set the gap on the points correctly which leads to my next question. Has anyone done a conversion to electronic ignition with one of the kits available? If so what are opinions on that. I am not interested in keeping everything original, just keeping it running. I do plan to get new wires to go with everything else. I would like for those to be made to fit not generics that you cut and fit. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!! This is an awesome forum for getting information for those of us that don't have the extensive knowledge that others on here have. I appreciate the fact that they are so willing to give of their time and knowledge.Thank you,Terry

Sounds like you need to buy your self an I-T manual that covers your tractor. As for parts and that distributor I get most of my parts form my local O'Reilly's auto parts. If nothing else I take to old parts with me so they can match them up.
So where you at here in Missouri I live close to the lake of the Ozarks

I believe your engine should be a Perkins AG3.152, that would be
a model number - not a serial.

My opinion of IT service manuals is very low. I had one for a MF
65 and it instructed readers to install the rocker arm shaft 180
degrees from the correct position. Much better info in a genuine
Massey service manual. I guess you get what you pay for.

I have a service manual and parts book. The parts book shows a Delco Remy but when I look for one online I see two types. The Delco Remy and a autolite.
I live just west of St. Louis.

On the distributor there should be a tag that will say Delco or autolite. Either way if you pull the points and take them to an O'Reilly's they should be able to match them up and that in turn will tell you which distributor it has

I will take the cap off when it warms up a little to see if I can find a tag of some sort. Will probably take points to O'reilly to see if they can match them.

No need to pull the cap off. The distributor should have a tag right on the side below the cap that will have the name of the company that makes it on it

He doesn"t need part nu for present dist being as someone used a 6 cyl on it. Try finding ser num for tractor and call MF
