165 continental governor

Dad's 165 (continental gas) lost the governor a little while back. He's got a bungee or something on it to keep it from running away but being it's his loader tractor he needs to run it every day to feed and move manure.

We had the dealer fix it when it lost the governor the last time (maybe 15 years ago) but that option is out because their service lately is less than stellar with older tractors anymore and Dad can't afford it.

How involved is it? Something I'd be able to do in an afternoon? Anybody got a good one on a parts tractor? What other models (if any) would have used the same one? The books are at the farm so can't look at them. I'm having issues with AGCO parts books also.

Any help appreciated

Don: You can probably look up the parts on line. Now for sure I would get a gasket and the bearing(s) used in the governor. Check the pivot pins where the weights pivot. Not my color as you know but 90% of all governors were made by Hoof or Pierce and due to legal things parts are hard to find and parts are expensive. You can find me on the green site if you have questions. J.

Must've missed something cause it's not showing up in modern or classic view. Not sure when I'll have a chance to look at it at this point but if I know what I need I'll have a fighting chance I think. Last time the shop said all the balls fell out.

Donovan,Before you tear it apart or order parts make
sure the pin that connects the rod[between the carb
and governor]at the governor arm is free, should be
able to spin that pin freely. That arm has to work
freely or your governor will be sticky and not
respond correctly.Check that out and I"ll work on
the email-first time for me trying that.Joe

Engine goes full throttle at start up. Dad has a bungee on it just to keep it from destroying itself and so he can use it. Still makes me a little nervous hearing it rev so high when the load comes off while shifting though.

My email is open if you want to shoot me a direct message.
