I've got a 1968 MF 165 that has diesel fuel in the oil. Is this a simple fix (for a mechanic)or something major?

Hi tg, 9 times out of 10 it is the fuel pump.
Unbolt the pump/leave lines hooked up. Lay card
board down o'night and see if it leaks. Chuck

Check also the thermostart on the intake manifold, it will have a wire and a diesel pipe attached. Unscrew it from the manifold and reconnect the wire and pipe, then run the tractor.....you will not need to plug the manifold hole for this test. If it is faulty it will drip.......Sam

X 2 check the supply pump first. US 100 series tractors did not have the thermostart like the 35 50 65 and 85 models did. Last it can be the injection pump also, have been seeing these leak more than in the past. Most pumps I repair the seals get hard and brittle, and even crack and start leaking into the crankcase.
