Have a MF-240-S, Perkins AD3.152, 700 hours, and don't do much actual work, drive arund and move trailers, bush-hog a little. Have been thinking lately I ought to speed her up. I see some tach's have a green-lined range about 1700 RPM. Is that the best speed range, abut 1700 RPM's???
Thanks for schooling me.

That is the engine RPM for the PTO to turn at 540 RPM. Optimum RPM depends on what you're doing with it, much different for plowing vs pulling a trailer.

One little trait these excellent little Perkins engines have is they like to be worked real hard, Like so hard that they redden the manifold! If they are used to potter about they will glaze the bores and start using oil.....No problem, a good few hours at real hard PTO work will usually sort that out. Don't let it go too far though or you will need a glaze buster and maybe even some new rings!.......Sam
