Converting to an alternator

I want to put an alternator on my 65 diesel.. I picked up a GM 10si to use because from the comments here it sounds like thats the hot ticket. It's awful tight trying to get it in there. It looks like i will have to move it up and out to make room for the thing. Anyone have any tips for a bracket? i know they sell universal kits here and there but I'm confident I can make/ weld one up. Help or insight would be appreciated.

I modified the generator bracket by welding bits on it.

The main problem is the belt. There is very little clearance from the
back of the belt to the heavy casting on the lower front of the
tractor. I had to grind into the casting about 1/8 inch to get
clearance so I could adjust belt tension, but I was able to use the
original belt.

Thanks for the reply Bob... I ended up going that route too except I started from scratch. I see what you mean about the casting.. clearance for the belt is tight. it sounds like you kept your alternator down low on the block. Mine is up higher, under and beside where the cam gear would be. Anyway... today I have to get a longer belt and finish welding it up. Thanks again
