Is there sufficient pressure on the friction washer and spring? If you are going straight and with the throttle set will it hold rpm or does it throttle down as you go? I will have to go out and look but I thought that the steering shaft was in a tube. Are the bolts holding the tube on loose?

when your going straight, rpm"s are steady. only when you are turning steering wheel(even sitting still) the engine goes up & down. you can see the out of round(est. 1" play)in the steering wheel when turning steering wheel while sitting idling. not sure about bolts-are talking the base of the steering unit?

just pulled steering wheel off steering rod-goveror is held on to a pipe that surrounds the shaft.that pipe is loose around the shaft. that pipe happens to be cracked(I dont think that has any bearing on why rpm's go up & down, but the shaft is bent bad. will the steering shaft come out if you take the 4 bolts on the base of unit?

Was wondering if you couldnt somehow hold the throttle rod to the metal underneath instead of steering shaft? The bent steering rod wouldnt have tobe fixed, if theres a way to hold throttle rod in place.
