MF 35 diesel starter solenoid

Took the starter off, last fall it appeared the solenoid was stuck as starter kept running even with the key off. Had to disconnect the battery or everything would have gone up in flames. Anyway, I pulled the solenoid off and took the two Phillips screws off the back thinking the cap with the electrical studs would come off. It wiggles but seems to be stuck....and I don't want to force it off. Could the contacts be welded together and keep it from coming off? I checked continuity and none between the two big studs, but continuity between the spade connector and stud that goes to the stator...that doesn't seem right. Any tips??

Now that you have self-schooled yourself in how a starter and solenoid look, take it to an automotive electrical shop and let them test it for you. That should complete your starter education and you can move on to the next issue.

You have to remove the nuts on the large studs.
lot of MF starters use standard delco solenoid, any parts store.

Thanks, I put it back together to test it with jumper cables and it worked ok. Put in a good battery and it works fine now. I think the low voltage just caused the solenoid to stick. Should have tried the good battery first...
