MF 165 3 bottom plow.

I would think it would do well with 3x14" plows
my neighbor has a 175 MF diesel and it has 4x14" pulls them fine.

as you said, a lot depends on the soil and the condition of the tractor (motor and tires)

I have a 1957 TO35 that came new with 3x12" plows,
I guess back in the day, it could pull them fine, but like me, its not as strong as it once was.

always better to have a smaller plow and spend more time plowing than to overload your tractor.

My 65 gas will pull a 3x14, but only in second gear due to what I think is a governor issue. Even tried a little five foot three point disk and it acts the same way. It"s an oliver 3241 plow, and boy is it heavy. My brother has a two bottom, same model, and it takes two guys just to drag it!

Yes it should be fine. I remember dad plowing with a 3 furrow 14" Kverneland behind a 165 without problems. I myself have used a 4 furrow 14" Kv behind a Massey 168 and I was surprised how well she handled it!

(quoted from post at 05:35:05 12/25/13) Just wondering how well a MF 165 will pull a 3 bottom plow( 14"s)in my semi- clay soil.

Thanks

We have a lot of clay mixed soils here and we pulled a 3 bottom Dearborn plow with our 165 it's whole life. It pulled it quite easily and we never had an issue that I can ever remember. One of my fondest memories is the sound of that 203 diesel and the sound of the tractor in high multi power. That is one of the sweetest sounds I can ever remember hearing. The 165 was rated to pull a 4 bottom and the 175 a 5 bottom.

I have a 175 now and I installed some suitcase weights on the front bumper. I have used it to plow a few times and I could see how a big 4 or 5 bottom would make it light in the front while turning around without some weights added to the front. I have seen a 175 pull a 5 bottom which it was rated to do but the plow had wheels with a hydraulic cylinder to lift it out of the ground.

I hope that guy with The MF Muck Spreader took his fork with him( Unless it was filled with feathers! )We had 2 of those and my dad used to say "Don"t put any more than 2 turds in it or you will break the bed chain!" The problem was the bed chain only had two speeds, 1 much to fast and 2 even faster. Those chains used to snap like carrots.
