Massey Combines ( late 1980's -1990's).

Can any of you Massey people tell me what models of combines were built by Western Combine Corp. (Canada) for Massey?

I know some of the 8400 series were built by Claas, but not all.

Thank you for any answers.

Brother had 2 8570s, one a 1991 and other a 1994. Has a 8780 now and a Cat also, both have Agco Georgia tags, I think. Believe the 8570s were from Canada.

Sometime in about 1989 Massey started a new company, or at least a new name called VARITY. Two models of combines that were built for, and sold by the new company. They were the 8450 and 8460 conventual machines. They were built by CLAAS in their Westfalia, Germany factory. At the time Massey printed an interesting 24 page brochure that told the story.

The reason I ask about the Western Combine Corp., is that it was a division of VARITY. I would like to know if there were any other combines built by any other company, and sold by Massey at the same time.

Do you know where the 8570 rotary combines were built? They were also sold in 1989 and 1990, and maybe longer. I am sure they were not built by CLAAS, but I don't know who.

Early 8570 combines were built in Canada then later ones were built in Independence Mo after Massey Combine Corp went broke. After that they started building them in Hesston Ks. The Claas combines were only sold by Massey for a couple of years before they got back to building their own. They are still going strong in Hesston.

I worked for White Farm and for Massey with the combine engineering dept. The 8570 was the second generation of the White 9320 combine after Massey bought the rights to the White combines. The 9320 has its roots in the 9700 and its origins go back to the Cockshutt days in Brantford when they were experimenting with rotary threshing. I think ethe protoype was called a D2 when Iwas there in 84. The 8560 was the firs tgen of the White 9320 as a Massey. They were bulit in Brantford. Western Combine Corp came about after Massey Combine corp was let go broke so corporate parasites could shirk their company"s pension obligatiions. Here is a test report on the 8560 - look sjust like the 9320. http://www1.agric.gov.ab.ca/$department/deptdocs.nsf/all/eng7932/$FILE/622.pdf
Western combine was owned by Linamar, the canadian autoparts supplier and was built for a while in the late 80"s in Portage La Prairie Manitoba. The combine was updated later to move the cab to the center, larger engine, plus other changes. It has had a hydrostatcally driven rotor since the beginning which is great to reverse for unpluging. White was also working on a 9550 similar model, but pull type. One proto was build. Best job I ever had was at White. smart bunch of guys with great ideas, I guess just like Cockshutt was made of.

Thank you Niel for the information.

Can you tell me what model of combine was built by Western and actually sold by the Massey Co.? I know AGCO ended up with Western in the late 1990's.
