carb adjustment

Just put a basic rebuild kit in a MH44. seat/neelde, throttle shaft and seals,...... the tractor runs best when the power needle is turned all the way in . the idle adjustment screw turned in or out seems to make little differnence . it does run well but this just doesn't seem right.

Hi, Did you soak the carb out with a good carb
cleaner? Usually soak for several hours to clean
"calcium" out of those little passages. Sounds

What were symptoms before you worked on it?

It sounds like your idle circuit is plugged.You will have to totally dis mantle your carb and clean it.Soak it in carb cleaner for a couple of days.Then blow out all the channels.I have used a small wire to make sure they are clean.After you have put it back together turn the main jet into the seat.Then turn it out to 2 to 2-1/2 turns.Warm up engine and make final adjustment. on main jet.Have the idle jet set at a 1/2 to 1 turn out.These settings are a starting point.You will have to fine tune it to get it perfect.One thing you have to do is to make sure that your throttle will open the butter fly to full feul.The reason for this is that carb may not be in the same spot due to the mounting bolts do not git tight in the holes on the manifold.When you have the carb set properly if you look at the fan it should look almost like it is not there.If the engine is not running smooth you can see it in the fan.One other thing I like to pass onto fellow collectors is to use 2 cycle oil in the gas.I have been using it since I started collecting and running these old tractors.The reason I use it is it keeps the carb lubricated and it stops the the carb from glazing up inside.I have opened my e-mail if you need more specs I can send them to you.The settings I give you come out of my 44 manual.
