I"m trying to remove the rear pto shaft from the pto clutch on my massey 2775. The shaft slides smoothly about an inch, and then stops hard, like there is a snap ring or something, not like messed up splines. The service manual says the shaft should just slide out, and I"ve spoken to another owner with a 2805 that slides out, so my next move is to block the pto clutch and use a slide hammer. Sure hate to do that without asking here first if anyone has seen this problem before?
The only thing I can think of, is that the clutch was overheated previously and the internal hub has seized on the shaft splines. That would only make sense if the internal hub can move an inch or so in the pto clutch. Otherwise, I can"t imagine why it would move an inch and then stop.
