44 standard front end

I'm wanting to put a 44 standard front end under my 44rc pulling tractor will I have to change cast frame also or will the front end bolt up to the Rc frame with the standard pedestal? Thanks!

The front pedestal from the standard will bolt right up where the bolster drops out. Uses same gearbox and steering shafts. A 30 Standard front will drop the nose a bit more and bolt on as well.

Aluminum wheels will take some work. Most aftermarket wheels will fit over the hub but the hubs have an odd bolt pattern that wont bolt up. Hubs can be redrilled and tapped for smaller pattern or you can run a wheel adapter.

What have u done to engine in ur 44? Looks pretty tough

I installed a 30 standard front under my 44rc puller last spring, the 30 and 44 standard fronts are EXACTLY the same, both have the same large 44 front hubs, only difference from the factory the 30 had 15 inch wheels and the 44 had 16's. The standard front will drop your front end 5 and 1/2 inches. The complete front with the steering box will bolt right on, the steering box will set a little farther back in the hole in the frame so you will have to shorten the shaft a little to make it fit, but it will clear the bell housing and engine just fine. the wishbone brace rear holes will fit the front holes in the frame and two holes will have to be drilled in the frame for the front bolts and that's it. good luck.

I forgot to mention the standard front weighs about 80 pounds more that a narrow front.

30 Standard front had a shorter pivot casting. To compensate for tire size differences, 14.9x30 on 44, 12.4x28 on 30. The 30 standard front also has a narrower axle beam from kingpin to kingping. I wont swear to these changes on ALL 30/33/44 tractors. I have learned that many things can happen to a tractor in 50 years of field repairs. I would have to check parts manual to be sure, BUT I know the 30 frontend under my puller is NOT the same as the frontend under my 44 Diesel Standard.

When I bought the suppose to have been 30 front I have I didn't see the tractor it came off of, it was shuttled closer to me by a middle guy and when I picked it up I noticed it had the heavy hubs and I questioned if it was a 30 or 44 front, well the guy didn't know, so I called the fellow I bought it from and he said he removed it off a 30 standard parts tractor and he also had a restored one and they were exactly the same, I thought it should have the small hubs like the 30 RC, I had never seen one before. I took it and was happy with it cause I already had a set of 15 inch wheels with the big hub hole and they would fit right on and I measured and knew it would drop my front quite a bit. I have a friend that has about 60 Masseys and I called him and asked if I could stop some time and check out these fronts cause he has two or more 30 and 44 standards. I got over there last winter and we measured his up and we both came to the conclusion that there the same except for the 15 and 16 inch tires. I have a 444 standard and that front is taller and wider pin to pin or I would have used it. Like you said a lot of things can get stitched in 50 or 60 years and I thought I had this one figured out but I guess not?? I like the way my puller sets with the set up I have. Well I have no where near 60 Massey's but I did pull the fronts off a 44 and 30 standard at the same salvage yard. Both had the larger hubs, but the axles and pivots were different. The 44 standard axle went under my 55 puller with some widening, and the 30 went under the one in the photo below... The only standards at the house to compare to now are a stock 55, the 44 Diesel and a 101jr so I cant really even compare originals side to side. Just going off my memories from 10 years ago or so when we did the original swaps.

Have 17 different Massey Harris' here. 9 of those are 44's and there is a staggering amount of subtle differences just in those 9 tractors. What I'm trying to say is, not calling anyone a liar, just not surprised by any thing I find on these old tractors.

The engine in the old girl is larger than stock, but not large enough... She'll run 3rd gear through 6000 lbs with 14.9 38 topcuts, and 6500 as well depending on the track. Drop me an email, link is open, and we can get more in depth.
