polarizing gen

My friend took the generator off his 135 and had it rebuilt. He says he marked the wires and put it back correct. It does not show charge on ammeter. I told him over the phone how to polarize it. I am used to Delco of same era. He said he could not find a gen. post on the VR. Can some one explain it in some way I can tell him over the phone? Thanks

pretty straight forward, just get a piece of insulated wire and strip the ends. hold one end on gen. or arm. terminal on reg. then touch or strike like a match the other end on field terminal. that"s all there is to it.

This is NOT correct. You need to touch the Arm, which would be the bigger post on the gen to the batt terminal on the regulator. If you touch the field terminal, it will ruin the voltage regulator.
