I still run 5 old Massey tractors here on the farm, and use 15/40 in all of them except the one I use in the winter with the loader on, that one gets 10/40 valvoline. 15/40 gets really stiff below 20 degrees F or so, even the 10/40 at 20 below is stiff enough but it always starts, you could use a zinc additive if it would make you feel better, but I don;t. I also have a diesel tractor with a snow blower on it, that one gets 15/40 full synthetic year around and always starts in the winter. To the guys using Rotella T, you better check on the zinc, with the new spec I don't think it has much zinc in it any more. I use some Rotella but it seems to make a lot of blow by and smoke off of idle, I'm starting to shy away from it, but have friends that use it by the drum in every thing. I think any major brand oil will be just fine.

I have seen the lighter oil with a C rating at ag dealerships. Most places only carry the S rated lighter oils.
