65 Massey serial number

I just picked up another 65 Massey Ferguson. The original serial number tag has been replaced with a different one. The new one reads Government du Quebec 7145T5 1025. Has anyone encountered anything like this? Going by the hood and engine it's a 1964-65. High arch with multi-power. Multi-power is stuck in low. I've got the linkage freed up, is there anyway to tell if it's the pump or the valve before I tear into it? Thanks in advance

If you are lucky the MP spool valve linkage may not moving the spool as it should. 65 had no pressure test ports on the MP circuit, lift cover can be removed to get at the pump. Have the line removed, start and check for oil flow at pump outlet, then do a pressure check. If that's OK the clutch plates may be burned and need replaced which requires transmission removal.

When you move the rod that runs into the bellhousing it feels stiff acting, not at all like the other two MP tractors. It makes me wonder about the valve in there. If it were just the clutches wouldn't the MP slip in high?

Lo MP is a jaw type one way gearset that will overrun when coasting, or when MP clutch is locked in hi with oil pressure. On level ground with transmission in 1st hi, will MP shift between lo and hi, and when in hi can you make it go back to lo with brakes applied? If so you may have the clutch plates burned from lack of oil, worn seal rings or other pump trouble.

I haven't tried the rocking it back and forth deal yet, but she freewheels for sure. It doesn't shift bback and forth at all. It had some awful looking milk instead of oil. I cleaned the screen and flushed and replaced the oil. I'm thinking pump.

Hey Brendon, keep an eye out for an air cleaner tube for a 65 gasser for me please. Previous owner of mine wasn't a believer in air cleaners and lost the long metal tube from air cleaner to carb. I'm watching Ebay, but if you come on one let me know.

I'll keep my eyes open. The gas one I bought is missing the cup for the airbath. Looks like it's been gone for a while. I bet it's in her garage somewhere. How's your haying going? I mowed an 18 acre piece of second cutting yesterday. We're supposed to have some nice weather this week. I was hoping I was done but I couldn't resist.

removing air cleaner bottom and tube seems to be a habit of sellers, mine were gone and nobody around here had correct used ones

1 1/2 inch metal flex exhaust pipe works, rubber piece at carb still available from Agco = $26

air cleaner bottom from diesel is bigger, did google search and found one piece bottom that seems to be working

oh - if air tube has been off a while, check inside the air cleaner for mice nests, guess how I learned that

I was thinking along those lines Grumpy, just wasn't sure of the size. Thx!

Just got in from tedding Brendon. I'm still working 1st cut. Fri looks like rain, maybe Sat too. Gonna try to get this batch done up tomorrow and Fri morn.

I was mowing yesterday through standing water probably 6" deep in some spots! This year has been a bear. Hope to get some 2nd cut squares in yet. We've baled into Nov. before, so who knows. Saw this years rounds advertised in the Watertown CL for $10.00. Someone must have gotten some real cheap fuel someplace! I figure I average close to $10.00 a bale just in fuel and twine by the time it's all cut, tedded a couple times, raked and baled.
