Massey Harris 44 6 to 12 volt

Will the pulley from my generator work on one of the Delco Alternators? Or would it be better to convert the 6 volt generator to 12 volt? Any idea on a fair price to do this conversion? Thanks all!!

Just an FYI on this topic. Some guys think it is terrible to put a 12 volt alternator on an old tractor. Yes it does not look correct, but if you are just looking for something reliable I would always go with the alternator VS the generator. Not only is it more reliable, but you will have plenty of power to run all your lights plus anything else you want to add.

Can you give me some insight on the best one to purchase....one wire or three wire...is there a particular model? Thanks again!!

I will take an alternator over a PITA generator and regulator any day. If I get a tractor with a generator on it the first thing I do is replace it with an alternator. IMO

use delco 3 wire. add diode in line from ign. switch so alt. will not feed ign switch and tractor motor will not shut off. you will have to put either a 12 volt coil in system or a voltage reducer between ign. switch and 6 volt coil.

I just had a 44 6 volt generator converted to 12 volt, cost about $125.00 plus new 12 volt regulator and 12 volt coil. Not cheap!

I have had no problem with the one wire delco remanufactured alternators. Wiring is simple and they are usually $100 or less. I have 4 masseys running this way. 2 44s a 44-6 and a 101 senior standard
