Have a MF 240 (8-speed) not synchronized.
In high range, if double clutched, you can shift on the fly. I can go 1(5) to 4(8) and 4(8) to 1(5) in order with no gear clash. Can even shift with out clutch and have no gear clash. Low range is possible but generally you lose too much speed between gears to make a clean shift, though I've done it in the field, i.e. 3 to 4.
I haul loaded wagons of hay and loaded manure spreader, no worries on missing gears on hills. Only exception is not trying to make the 2 to 3 shift going uphill, gears are spaced a lot different than the 1 to 2 shift.
My advice, practice on a smooth, flat road and just go up and down between 1st and 2nd, get good, then try 1 2 3, you'll get it.
