Have UK 135 deluxe .Clutch will not release .Removed inspection plate, spring fell out, throw out bearing return spring.do I have to split tractor, or can I replace spring from below ? Thank you for any help

Hi Ronald, The return spring can be replaced through the inspection cover it is difficult to do it you will need a pair of long nose pliers to stretch the spring into the release bearing carrier. This is not the answer to the problem. If the main plate will not release you need to check first for any presence of oil contamination around the clutch cover. Secondly, have an assistant to operate the clutch and check the operation of the linkage. Check that you have the correct adjustment for the pedal free movement and pto plate adjuster clearance. Let us know what you find.

David Thanks for reply .Tractor has been sitting idle for several months . Started mf 135,could shift to 1st and R, low rpm. pressed down on clutch pedal, tractor kept going forward. Reverse gear very dangerous.

Hi,
OK, we have a little more info now. It seems that the main plate is stuck either to the flywheel (most likely) or the pressure plate.
Normally it will be necessary to split the tractor and remove the clutch unit to free it etc.
However there is one way that you can try to free it without splitting. Be warned that you do run a risk of breaking the clutch plate or breaking the shear tube in attempting this but it does work sometimes without any damage.
Place the tractor on a strip of tarmac or concrete. Crash the gears to get it into top gear by using the throttle and gears. When in top at about half throttle, press the clutch pedal. Stamp on the brake pedal as hard as you can for the shortest possible time. This will free the clutch plate sometimes but as mentioned can also cause damage...so be warned. I have never broken anything in my 40 years of MF experience.
If it does not free then you will have to split it.
