PTO clutch problem

I have a 165 diesel with a duel stage clutch. The PTO will not engage unless I shut the engine off, engage, then restart. Can I adjust the PTO clutch. If so any help on how to would be appreciated.

Tony told me to make sure I place the throttle in idle before I try to engage the pto. My 202 with the two stage clutch was really hard to shift, but reducing the rpm"s it slips in no problem

Remove the 4-bolt cover plate under the transmission, and peer up inside. Hopefully you will see an adjusting bolt with a jam nut. If not, turn the engine by hand until you do. There are three of these, and the key is that they must be adjusted evenly. The book spec is .090 clearance, but depending on clutch wear that may or may not work for you, but it's a place to start. Use a feeler guage to get all of them the same.

First make sure you adjust the main clutch. You need 1/8 inch free play until the clutch starts to disengage. Hopefully then you will not have to take the bottom plate off and adjust the PTO clutch.

Instructions are in the operators manual.
