MF250 - What Do You Know About Them?

There is an MF250 for sale locally. It appears to be in pretty good shape, sheet metal is good - don't know the hours.

For whatever reason - under the sheet metal, the body, clutch and brake pedals and front axle look a lot like my MF50. It even looks long in length like my MF50.

What do you know about the MF250 - the good, bad and ugly? It would be used for bush hogging and maybe some post driving chores.

Is it similar to my MF50 in any way?

Thanks!
Bill

Hi Bill,
The 250 is based on the tried and trusted 135 and 165. It essentially has a 135 front end and a 165 back end. In the UK 11x32 tyres were fitted as standard. The engine was tweeked a little to give the extra 2HP but as a result the starting suffered a little. Presumably its a 2WD. 4WD's were a bit underpowered even with the extra 2HP. If it has a cab check that the handbrake cables are free and not worn. Otherwise its solid and reliable.

13.6-28 tires common on a 250 here, planetary finals and wet brakes, many had remote valve that allowed hydraulics to be separate from 3pt.

152 perkins diesel, 8 speed trans. Fast on the road.

I ran one for a while one year on a job, seems to me the 3-4 shift was synchronized, but the other gears weren't

My cousin has one he inherited from my uncle. Good tractors, I think they are rated at 37 hp. He uses 6ft rotary cutter, no problem. It has a MF 232 loader on it and has the aux hyd pump piggybacked onto the 3pt pump in the belly. It has a real smooth shifting clutch/transmission, much better that my 253.

Another local man has one also, uses it on 7ft disc mower and Hesston 5530(39"x54") round baler.
